Scanning a small-sized original on a Ricoh machine. From the homepage, click on Scanner Classic. As you can see, the settings for scanning are Auto Color Select, 200 DPI, and Auto Detect for size.

I have a small business card here. Without changing anything, if I put it on the glass, choose my destination, and [click] Start, I'll receive an error that says “cannot detect original size”.

So, a workaround is very easy. All you have to do is go into Scan Settings > Scan Size > take it off Auto Detect by choosing a size - in this case, 8.5” by 11”. Now, I can place my original anywhere within the 8.5” by 11” image area to be scanned, choose my destination, and start.

After scanning anything on the glass, you'll receive a 59-second countdown - allowing enough time to put another original if you have one. If you're finished, press the pound sign.
